This general session will present leadership capabilities for MTSS implementation.
The panel will react to the capabilities and describe and explore the steps they have taken and will have to take as they prepare their school districts to move away from an ability/achievement discrepancy model and begin implementation of RTI for Specific Learning Disability (SLD) identification by 2028. Listen to these  Washington State school district leaders discuss this complex system change. We will have time for audience questions.

Multilingual Learners bring rich linguistic assets to the classroom. In this session we will demonstrate strategies that can be used in all K-12 classrooms and in all tiers to harness these assets and build on students' home languages for academic success. Whether you speak another language or not, you can support students to use their bilingual superpowers!

Educators are incredible, but disjointed systems and initiative fatigue can undermine their impact, and diverse learning needs in our communities demand instructional agility. It’s time we empower educators with the tools they deserve to drive lasting instructional growth. This session introduces a coherent classroom instructional system of Tier 1 and Tier II classroom strategies, supported by research, data, and AI, to help every teacher build optimal classroom learning conditions that any MTSS must include.

This presentation will provide an overview of the 2028 shift in Specific Learning Disability eligibility guidelines, provide an overview of the Last Mile project (an OSPI funded partnership with the University of Washington Bothell), and offer action steps for districts to take in preparation for the upcoming change in eligibility guidelines including access to the Last Mile RtI Implementation Rubric. A Last Mile district administrator partner will also offer insights into this work from the district perspective.
